Elmina Bay House sits on a private stretch of sand a short drive west of Elmina town. Five suites in a low colonial-era main house, a pool that meets the ocean at the horizon, and a small team who would rather you sleep in than be on time for breakfast. Coffee on the veranda

Pour-over coffee, a small pitcher of cream, the morning paper if you want it. The sun rises behind the main house, so the veranda stays cool.

Slow breakfast

Cut fruit, bofrot, a soft-boiled egg, a tall glass of pineapple juice. We do not call you to the table. You come when you come.

11:00

Pool, beach, or both

Towels on the cabanas, sunscreen at the bar, no one watching the clock. Most guests start in the pool and end in the sea.

14:00

A small lunch

Grilled red fish, jollof, fried plantain, a sharp pepper sauce. Eaten under the coconut canopy. A cold beer if the day is calling for it.

Sunset walk

The driftwood lanterns get lit along the sand. A slow walk to where the small fishing boats come back in. The sky goes orange, then rose, then deep blue.

20:00

Dinner under bulbs

A small set menu on the long wooden table. Conversations that go longer than the meal. Bed when you are ready, not before.
